Scammers Pose as Buyers & Sellers1.7.2021Alert
Beware While Buying & Selling Online
BEWARE: While you're buying and selling online, scammers pose as buyers (offering you an overnighted check above your asking cost, which is counterfeit, and eagerly awaiting you to wire them the difference) or a seller (selling an expensive item at an unbelievably low price, but asking pointed questions that gather PII).
WHAT TO DO: Remember, just because a check is deposited or cashed, does not mean the check is instantly valid. By law, banks must make funds available immediately. Banks have the right to recover the money from the account holder. The account holder is responsible for any funds missing from the account.
NEVER give personal identifying information (PII) such as your full name, Social Security number, driver's license number, bank account number, passport number, debit card number or email address to a received phone call, text or email. First Security Bank will NEVER ask you for your debit/credit card PIN or password for online banking. If you receive a suspicious notification, call Customer Support directly at (877)611-3118.
